Selecting a mailitem

I would like to select a mailitem so it appears in the preview window
of the active explorer. Getting the folder to show up is easy but I
can't seem to figure out how to say "select this message" in the
folder.

Any ideas?
 
That's because Outlook provides no method to do that.
