Selecting a different default email program

I'd like to run Incredimail as my default email program, and of course, Vista
has made this impossible. How do I do this? I don't want Windows Mail to be
my default email program. I once changed the registry to make sure Firefox
was my default browser, so I'm thinking there's a similar fix?

Try Control Panel | Default Programs and try and set it there. If you
can't, then contact the Incredimail people -- its not Microsoft's problem if
they don't work with Vista, but they should as most programs aren't
affected.

I've already done what you suggest and more. The problem is that Windows
won't allow me to change it from the default email program. The "buttons"
that would allow that are "blanked" out. So the Windows Mail thinks it's the
default, even though Incredimail has been the default for over a year. With
the switch to Vista, suddenly, I can't make Windows Mail give that up. I
need to know how to tell Windows to "give up."

If you find out the answer I would like to know too. It is so nice how all
our programs are blocked. It keeps trying to use the windows mail every time
I click some ones link. I can't stand it anymore.

If you want IncrediMail to be your primary email program
you need to contact those people for support:
http://www.incredimail.com

Personally, I would not allow that program within a 10 foot radius
of any of my computers. ;-)

I've been using Incredimail for years with no problems. It's not a bad
program and there is nothing wrong with it. The new beta version (
http://www.incredimail.com/english/beta/beta.asp?id=100080 ) is working with
Vista for me. Since Windows Mail won't let you change the default settings I
don't see it being totally Incredimail's fault. I just check the "Launch
IncrediMail on startup" option and when an e-mail comes in it notifies me. I
don't have to use Windows Mail.

Here's the updated answer to the problem. Open the Control Panel/Add or
remove user accounts/Go to the main User Accounts page/Turn User Account
Control on or off. Unclick "Use User Account Contro (UAC) to hilp protect
your computer". Click the OK button and restart your computer. You can then
set Incredimail as the default e-mail program. You may want to start the UAC
again if you so wish.

Thanks for posting that information. I wasn't aware this could be
done without having Outlook installed.
