Your computer will be just fine, no need to worry. You are just setting your
preferred language and keyboard layout, you are not changing the language of
your Vista interface (that is a different procedure).
The worst thing that could happen, is if you set a different language than
your keyboard has, in which case the keys and letters may mismatch. You can
easily change the language back, or change it to something else in:
Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Keyboards and Languages tab.
In order to change the actual language of your Vista interface, you have to
download a multilingual user interface (MUI) or language interface pack
(LIP) from Microsoft. MUIs are for Ultimate only, you can check out this
Microsoft page to find out if your Vista copy qualifies for an LIP:
