How to remove the asian keyboard

J

Jerry

I am running Vista Business on my new HP Laptop with 4 gigs of RAM.
I am a translator and am using TRADOS Workbench.

I am also running office 2003 with trados, since this version doesn't
support 2007.

The problem is (as found on trados discussion groups), trados automatically
changes the formatting of the translation segments, due to installed asian
languages (keyboards) on the computer. This is annoying me very much, as I
lose much of precious time re-editing the translated documents.

I have already gone to office 2003 language settings and removed the enabled
asian language i had, but the problem persited.

Under regional and language settings in control panel>keyboards and
languages tab>change keyboards, I have found that I have Chinese (PRC)
Keyboard installed (under installed services). I selected and removed it, but
after clicking apply or OK, the keyboard service magically reappears. I'm
guessing this is the cause to my problems, so can anyone please tell me, how
to remove this Chinese keyboard service for good, because it's really drving
me crazy and costing me a lot of time and money re-editing my documents.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jerry,

Make sure that you have the one you want to switch to installed and set
as your "Default input language" first. This tutorial may help you. See
the screenshot in step 7.

Hello Shawn,

My default input language is Slovenian (Slovenia) and Keyboard layout is
Slovenian. I am using this keyboard layout as well. It's just when I want to
get rid of the Chinese (PRC) installed service, it removes itself just
nicely, but after clicking apply or OK it reappears. The sheer presence of
this keyboard layout is causing me issues with trados. I have tried
reinstalling the all the layouts (english and slovenian) but nothing happens.
The chinese remains.

When I first entered the change keyboard section, the installed services
window showed me (apart from the US english and slovenian) the chinese (prc)
keyboard. Under the keyboard icon, there were two bullets: Microsoft Pinyin
IME and US keyboard. When I removed the chinese (prc) service, the bullets
were gone, but the presence of the keyboard icon remains. I hope you know
what I mean.

I hope that this explanation helps further with resovling my problem.

Regards,
Jerry
