I'm shopping for a new monitor, something in the $200-$300 US range,
for games, 3d modeling and Photoshop. Since many people here work with
many different brands of hardware, I would like to know if anyone here
has any experience with any of these, and if you've had a bad
experience, whether it was a defective product or poor customer
service.

Acer AL1916Fbd
Acer AL1916WAsd
LG Flatron L194WT
LG L1932TQ
ViewSonic VG1930wn
ViewSonic VX1945wm
AOC 193P+
ViewSonic VX922

All of these have similar specs, I just wonder if there are any I
should stay away from.

What output interfaces does your graphics card have?

Stay away from the LG's. Don't know anything about the AOC. Also consider
the AG Neovo F-419 and the Acer AL2017BMD. If you must choose one on the
list you posted, the first one is the best of the bunch. -Dave

Thanks for the response. Can you tell me why you're advising me to
not go with an LG? I would like to know the reason if you don't mind.
I've heard good things about them in some of the reviews I've seen.

I've owned the Acer AL1916 for about 7 months. It is powered 24/7. So
far no problems and the picture is just fine. No bad pixels. Just
seems to be a good solid monitor. I do not play games, however, so I
can't comment on that aspect.

Simple. LG = Goldstar, and that's never a good thing. -Dave

Hmm...I'm curious why some people look down upon LG LCDs. LG manufactures
some of the best LCD panels used in high-end Sony, NEC & HP LCDs. LG's a-SI
panels are known for laser-sharp text and vibrant colors, whereas its
competitor Samsung's panels are known for fast speed. I don't know the LG
model you're considering uses a high-end panel, though.

Acer use to mean "pure garbage". I even testified
against a PC company in court, when the manager
tried to say that a customer was just destructive,
and that was why his Acer cd-rom kept blowing
his mobo. I knew straight up that the Acer cd-rom
was known to short out and blow psupplies, and
sometimes pop the mobo too. My company had
an Acer warranty support contract, and once Acer
paid me a whole $5 to drive from Madison, Wi
to Chicago to replace a blown Acer cd-rom. Gee.
LG Flatron L194WT

Their DVD-roms are noisy and unpleasant to
work around. If they won't even quieten those
things down, I would be suspicious of their
other products as well.
ViewSonic VG1930wn
ViewSonic VX1945wm

I have the 2025Wide 20 inch lcd monitor, and
it is great. Don't buy a 19 inch 4:3 lcd monitor.
AOC 193P+

I always bought AOC crt monitors. They were
high quality, and the price was right. I have many
of them still in service after 6 or 7 years.
ViewSonic VX922

If it is like my 924, it is a rocket, and an excellent
gamer. I just like the wide screens better now,
and wifey is doing email on the 924 :)

Why the heck not? You do understand that 16:9 monitors offer less viewing
area, because they are still measured diagonally, right? I would suggest
AVOIDING widescreen monitors unless you have too much money (and HAVE to get
rid of it) or your primary purpose for the monitor will be watching DVD
movies. All the widescreen monitors I've seen appear to be priced
competitively, until you factor in that the widescreen monitor is smaller
than the same size 4:3 set. That is, a 19" widescreen is comparable to a
17" 4:3 set. -Dave

More fool you, even their DVD burners are fine.

Just so no one else wastes their time replying, I chose this one. So
far I like it, although I liked the look of my Syncmaster better.
Thanks for all the responses.

Here's the LG timeline. It looks like they hooked in with Philips 6 yrs ago.
I know what you mean, though. The panel might be solid but ancillary
hdwe (switches, case, connectors) might be subpar. I have no personal
knowledge on this, however.
