Seeking cross platform file encryption utility.

I am dual booting between WinXP Pro and Kubuntu Linux, and of course I
am unable to open files in Linux which were encrypted using a Windows
program. Does anyone know of a Java file encryption app which will run
in both environments, or a program which has been ported to both Windows
and Linux which can perform encryption/decryption operations on files
which are on a common partition? Thanks.
