Judi types up a word document with table... Gretchen, Renee... all in office
can receive the file via email, open it and the table contents are lined up
fine. Heidi opens the file and the contents are "off". Why? How can Judi
make the file stay as originally typed - so all see it formatted the same? I
tried Security - Protect... but, that didn't work. Any ideas? Is it Heidi's
machine/Word that I need to work on??? Renee

Yes. We have a range of printers. I will have her try setting her printer
to the same one I use... and see if he reads it correctly then.

Both Heidi & I have the same printers Brother-MFC5860CN, so I think we would
have the same drivers??? If not, I don't know how to check that.

It's possible to have different versions of the same printer driver behave
differently -- http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TextReflow.htm
discusses this -- and there are some option settings that can affect
character alignment. But I think the underlying problem is something else...

Are these "tables" created by typing spaces between words that are supposed
to line up in columns? That's really bad practice, because most fonts are
"proportional" and the sizes of their spaces are somewhat variable.

In all modern word processors, if you want things to align, you use either
tab stops or an actual table (in Word 2003, use Table > Insert > Table or
the Insert Table button on the toolbar). Read
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/UsingColumns.htm for a discussion
of the ways to line up text in columns.

It is a table. Word 2002. Returns, not spaces, within the columns. I
checked the font when it comes up on her machine and mine - they are the
same... position appears to be the same. Weird thing is, her machine allows
more words in the line... than mine. I can't figure out how that can be when
we have the same font and same table size? How can her machine open the file
to make the table different like that? Are there some default settings per
machine that can change files? I will have her print me screen shots of all
her settings to see if I can see any difference between hers and mine?!?!

The thing to check, as Jay notes, is whether you both have the same
version of the printer driver for the printer you use. (And also that
the same printer is selected as the default printer in each copy of
Windows.)

It is a table.  Word 2002.  Returns, not spaces, within the columns.  I
checked the font when it comes up on her machine and mine - they are the
