Have two computers on a network through a router with broadband connection.
Both running WinXP SP2. On one with automatically assigned IP addresses I
get nothing. If I change it to a static address within the range given by
DHCP I can see the other computer on the network and share files etc. but
cannot access the internet. What gives? Bad Winsock? Repair TCP/IP ?
HELP......

PS. This was working fine, then all of the sudden I lost access to the
internet. Virus was discovered by AVG. Could virus have caused this?
Apparently virus came from another computer on the network (since
removed)Tried Restoring etc. no luck.

OK, just in case it happens to you, the WINSOCK2 file was corrupt. I
downloaded a repair utility from Softpedia and it fixed the problem.
Everything is A-OK now.
