Securtiy Tab for folders; Group Policy hard drive access.

I have 2 Questions.

I use Windows XP Professional

1. I would like to manage Read/Write permission for folders between local
and remote users. However, when I click properties the "Security" tab does
not appear and I am unable to edit permissions. Why this is so?

2. I encountered public computers that block access to the C: drive. When
You click "My Computer" the C: drive is hidden. Any attempt to access it
using Open in any software program fails with Group Policy error (the
"Restrictions" message.) Is it possible to do this on Windows XP Pro with
Group Policy or can it only be done by by the server PC?

If You have any answers, feel free to Email Me at (e-mail address removed). I
tried getting support but it seems as if Microsoft has discontinued free
support.

Thanks

By default, Windows uses "Simple File Sharing". Basically, this allows
access to your system in a manner which eases network use for the average
home-network consumer. In order to control access by username, you need to
first disable this setting.

You can do this by going to "My Computer", clicking the "View" tab on the
main menu and scrolling to the bottom of the "Advanced Settings" box. The
last option you'll see is for simple file sharing. Once unchecked, you'll
be able to see the "Security" tab on your folders. This will allow you to
set access based on usernames both locally and remotely.

Having done that should also cover your second question...I think. Or do
you want to completely hide "C:" from view regardless of who's logged on?

Another question:

When I press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, My computer brings up (or attepts to) bing up
the Task Manager. Doing this on many other XP/NT computers bring up a
six-button window with the following buttons: Lock Computer, Task Manager,
Change Password, Shut Down, Log Off, Cancel.

This windows also tells You the Domain/Workgroup of the PC.

Can anyone explane?

"Advanced Settings" does not appear on My View tab. This could be more
difficult to solve than expected.

Let me just confirm...in "My Computer", click "Tools" on the main menu and
select "Folder Options" (or select "Folder Options" from Control Panel). On
the window that opens, choose the "View" tab. In this window are two group
boxes; "Folder Views" and "Advanced Settings". You're saying that you do
not have "Advanced Settings" here?
