Windows XP displays the name of the last user account
when protected with password. How can the name of the
last login user be hidden so that a different user will
not know another user ID. Knowing the login ID can
possibly give other chance to hark the system. Suggesion
requested.

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system

In the right pane, locate the "dontdisplaylastusername" value and change its
setting to 1.

For XP Pro, you can also accomplish this via the Group Policy Editor (Start,
Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC). Go to Computer Configuration, Windows Settings,
Security Settings, Local Policies, Security Options. You'll find this
setting in the Interactive Logon section. Setting the policy to Enabled
puts the restriction in place.
