Security Updates negating Windows Firewall

This morning I downloaded and installed a batch of security updates.

Before I did this, Windows Firewall was ON.

After restarting, Windows Firewall is OFF and I cannot turn it on, even in
Control Panel. It simply refuses to turn on.

The updates I installed were:

KB899589
KB900725
KB901017
KB902400
KB905414
KB905749

How can I get the Firewall to work again?

Try uninstalling the KB905414 update. That one deals with DOS attacks which
could have done something with your firewall.
