I was recently was prompted to download a Windows XP security update. After
I did so, the computer would no longer boot properly and I receive this error
message at start up:
Explorer.exe-entry point not found
The procedure entry point SHCreateThreadRef could not be located in the
dynamic link library Shlwapi.dll
I found information about this error on Microsoft's website and followed
their protocol for accessing the Task Manager and removing the hotfix
(KB834707). It suggested removal of service pack 2 which I did not find in
the list of programs. I also tried to remove it through the Task Manager
using %windir%\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe as suggested.
This also did not work.
Once the computer finishes trying to boot, I see the wallpaper but no icons,
folders, start menu--nothing.
I cannot get around the problem in Safe Mode either....
Any ideas?!
