Security Update for Windows XP KB931784

Ahoy,

Wonder if you can help me out with this one.
Running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2, with all the updates
using the Express button at Windows Update site, "Except" one of them,
and that's the problem.
Security Update for Windows XP (KB931784) downloads and installs
successfully, but the next time I go to Windows Update, it is offered to me
again. It doesn't have to download, says it allready is, then installs
successfully again.
It says in Details at WinUp that it gets added to Add/Remove,
but it's not in my Add/Remove Programs window.

No other known probs on this machine, just this Security Update being
offered every trip to WinUp.

Anyone else experience this behaviour, and/or know the fix for this so it
doesn''t keep being offered, and does get added to add/remove ?

Thank you

Hi John,

I should have checked that Windows Update newsgroup, I wasn't thinking again
{ doin' that alot lately :) }

A fix mentioned there, worked for me ! ,

This is what I did :

I downloaded KB931784 from the Microsoft Download Center,
saved it to my desktop,
clicked Start and Run,
typed the Location of the file, followed by
\WindowsXP-KB931784-x86-ENU.exe" /o
and then just following the prompts as usual.
The added "Space" and the "forward slash" and the "o"
is what made it work.
I don't get offered KB931784 at WinUp anymore,
although it "didn't" get added to Add/Remove like it says it's supposed to,
but I figure that's because of having to use the space /o

So, that satisfies me for now I reckon,

Thanks for your reply John,
Spot On Matey,
I appreciate your time

Confirm that the update did install successfully by opening Add/Remove
Programs in the Control Panel. *Make sure* the 'Show updates' box is
checked at the top. The update will be listed towards the bottom under
'XP - Software updates '.
If it's still not listed, then check these files versions.

How to see hidden files in Windows
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html#winxp

Except for Ntkrnlpa.exe, they are located in WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386 :

Ntkrnlmp.exe
Ntkrnlpa.exe [WINDOWS\system32]
Ntkrpamp.exe
Ntoskrnl.exe

Right click the files and choose Properties.
Then click the Version tab. They should all be at V.5.1.2600.3093
