Security Update CD install error, ActiveX

B

BOMOON

Hi,
I can't get the Security Update CD to install on an XP Pro
machine. I get the old ActiveX error message:

Your current security settings prohibit running activex
controls on this page

The KB article 836942 covers a similar problem with
Windows Update, but the solution can't be applied to the
Security Update CD. I've tried every combination of
ActiveX disable/enable/prompt settings on the Internet
Options | Security Tab I could think of. Anyone else
having this problem? Anyone know what to do about it?

Thanks All and have a good day,
BOMOON

Hi,

Try running the Windows Security Update CD by following the steps in the
article given below:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];833242#1

If the problem persists, even after following the instructions, try the
steps given below:

1.Open Internet Explorer.
2.Click Tools and click Internet Options.
3.Click the Security tab.
4.Click the Custom Level Button.
5.Scroll down the list and Enable all the options under "Activex Controls
and plugins".
6.Click OK.
7.Click OK again.

Now try running the Windows Security Update CD.

Hi,
I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at here.
The link you provided connects to the standard
installation instructions. If I follow those steps, I
just get the same error again. As far as
the "Troubleshooting" section goes, none of the procedures
therein address the ActiveX problem I'm having.

Also, the alternate instructions you give, i.e. enabling
ActiveX plugins and controls in Internet Options, were
already tried, as I noted in my original posting. Here is
what I said:

"I've tried every combination of ActiveX
disable/enable/prompt settings on the Internet Options |
Security Tab I could think of."

Was it your itention to have me try everything all over
again? If so, it didn't work - as expected. Any other
ideas?
