Security Patch

J

Jerry E. Faries

I recently received an email, providing a Security Patch
from Microsoft Security Assistance the patch was 985.exe.

My virus check highlighted this and warned that it
contained Virus W32/Swen@MM.

I usually trust Microsoft, but this threw me off guard.
I tried to clean it, but was told that it could not be
cleaned, so I have isolated it to an infected holding
folder.

Please advise if this is a ligetimate fix from Microsoft
or if it is indeed an attempt to release a virus into my
system.

Thank you

Jerry

You didn't get any patches from Microsoft and you never will - not via
e-mail at least. The e-mails contain viruses and they are NOT coming from
Microsoft.

Its a virus. Microsoft and antivirus protection
companies do not provide updates via email attachments.
It is you responsibility to go to their sites for updates
or they will provide a link in their email to send you to
the correct update patch center. NEVER OPEN ATTACHMENTS,
especially ones with .exe after the file.
