Security not on properties for a file

Hey

Hi All,

On some computers, when I click on a file (a data file I use frequently, on
different computers) and then properties, it shows me a 3 tabbed window,
with General/Security/Details. Same file, different computer and I get just
the General tab (I think...maybe Details, but it's missing he Security tab).

I need the security tab on all the computers I may use this file on so
what/how do I change the computers that don't have it in order to get those
3 tabs? Again, I need the Security tab to be there.

TIA
me

Windows XP Home editions will only show the "Security" Tab
while the PC is running in Safe Mode.

I don't really know. I'll have to check next time I have access to one of
these odd computers.

However, I know that both are XP Professional rather than Home.

Background: This is an MSAccess database file. When I "Compact and Repair"
it somehow it deletes the Everyone user (regardless of which computer I do
this on). In order to get it back, I have to "Compact and Repair" it on my
computer (that has the security tab where I can add an Everyone user and add
it back in after it's finished with the C & R). Once the Everyone user is
added back in for that file, it can be used by everyone on a P2P network I
have. Otherwise, it's usable by only the user that has it on their hard
drive.

I really don';t see anything different in these installations of XP Pro, yet
2 I have don't have the security tab. Thought maybe there was some easy
fix.

Thanks for you time,
me

Have you turned off Simplified File Sharing ?

I have NO idea how to turn it either on or off. These systems came
pre-configured the way they are currently. 3 out of 5 are fine, the other 2
don't have this security tab. Could it be "Simplified File Sharing"? If
so, how do I turn it on or off (whichever it isn't...). (I'm looking it up
in help files now....)

Thanks

Folder Options, View (TAB) - scroll to the bottom of the options list.
It should be the last option box. Once unchecked, the Security TAB
should be accessible.

BINGO!

I found it in help and came back here to thank you for pointing me in the
right direction (and here you have step by step instructions as well). That
indeed set it up so I have the security tab (or, will when I have access to
those 2 pesky computers again next week). I checked it on mine and lost the
Security, unchecked it again and got it back.

Thanks alot--I really appreciate you taking your time to help me.

Now, if I could just figure out why it zaps the "everyone" user when I
compact and repair, I wouldn't even need this. It used to NOT do that...so
it was some update that started this. But, at least you've given me a
workaround. And luckily it's a well running program so I don't have to C &
R often.

Thanks again,
me
