In Outlook Express, I routinely get an e-mail saying it
is from MicroSoft saying I need to install a patch
immediately to protect my computer. The sender's address
is (e-mail address removed). Is this a hoax, possibly a
virus or is it actually from MicroSoft. I have been
deleting these e-mails when I receive them.

Yes it's a hoax that's been doing the rounds and driving people mad since
August I think.

Bern:
Microsoft does not send security updates, patches, fixes, etc. via email.
The attachments are viruses. There are several of these phony MS emails
making the rounds. Delete them.

Greetings --

Actually, it's been going on since at least April, when Microsoft
first posted warnings about such emails on their security sites.

It's a hoax, you will never get an e-mail form Microsoft regarding
installing patches...keep deleting them..
