Security alert shortly after startup

Hi
Can anyone explain to me why even though I never touch the Firewall
settings, I now get a security alert shortly after startup stating my
firewall is switched off , click here to rectify or words to that effect,
creating real problems and driving me potty

Does the message come from Windows Security Center? If it does not, your
computer is infected with malware.

Control Panel > Security Center > what does Windows Security Center say
about your firewall?

Thanks for your reply,the message does come from Windows Security Center ,a
red shield, have problems entering the security center on startup until this
is clicked and the firewall is switched back on ?
Pulling my hair out?

When you follow these steps, exactly:

Start > Control Panel > Security Center

1- On the line that says Firewall, is there a green light followed by
the word ON ?
2- If you do not see a green light followed by the word ON , please post
the complete wording of the paragraph underneath the word Firewall.
