Secure website problems

I have a WinXP Home Edition with Internet Explorer 6 on it
and when I try to go to a secure website I get an error
that the page is unavailable. When I try to go the Windows
update site and click on scan computer I get an error
0x800C0005. I have searched the microsoft website with no
luck. Please help!!!
