Secure Digital Card Reader

Hi
Originally posted on MCE, but no response there.

Have a problem with a new ASUS laptop, there is a multiformat card reader
built in. When I plug in an SD card the USB system see's the card being
loaded (Safe removal icon comes on) But the card does not show in my
computer.

I have seen this on other machines but it is due to the fact that Windows
assigns the next available drive letter (F), but this is already taken by our
network and can't be changed.

I thought that I could go to disk managment and change the SD drive letter,
but the card does not show there. If I disconnect from the network the card
comes into my computer as F, but still does not show in disk mangement.

Does anyone know if you can force the drive to change letters with regedit
or similar?

Thanks
Craig

Hi Craig
I am not an expert but I had similar problem on my laptop. I just changed
the network drive to a later alphabet (L,M,N etc). since then I had no
conflict as my drive F is then SD CARD

Hi Khan

Thanks for that, not possible for us to do that. But since listing the
request I managed to track down a solution. I have just tested it and it
works well.
From www.uwe-sieber.ds/usbdlm_e.html

This solves the problem of windows using pre mapped network drives. It takes
about 5 mins to set up and worked first time, all you need to do is fill in a
list of drive letters that you don't want to use for USB. It runs as a
service in the background.
