section page numbers

We are creating a training manual in word. The even pages are instructor
content pages and we do not want any page numbering at all. The odd pages
are student guide material and we want them to number Page 1, Page 2, etc.
Right now, the only way I have been able to do this is by inserting text
boxes on top of the footer and manually entering them. I cannot seem to get
the formula to work (e.g. ={Page}-2) and even if I did, wouldn't it still
just subtract 2 from each footer? That would not accomplish what I need.

If anyone knows how to make Word skip the even pages while numbering I would
be forever grateful. If it is not possible, then would anyone know how I can
anchor the manually inserted text boxes so they stay put and in the same
location as the others?

Thanks very much.

Try using section breaks. Insert | Break | Odd Page. I hope this has been
helpful to you.

You need to set up odd and even footers, and in the odd pages, the field
formula you need is documented here in #6 from Jay Freedman, as I found by
doing a search:

<quote>
Open up the odd-page header. Press Alt+F9 so you can see and edit the
field code. ...so the
code looks like this:

   { = ( { Page } + 1) / 2 }

Then press Alt+F9 again to collapse the field code, and press F9 to
update it.
