Secondary Hard Drive issued 2 Drive letters

When I bootup my secondary hard drive is recognized twice
and it is issued two drive letters. Also note, that since
this occurance, my bootup goes through some sort of
scandisk/check disk operation and says that I have a
dirty drive (Twice). I believe it is doing the same drive
twice. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

This all started after I accepted an automatic install
from Microsoft. Weird!?

I have the same problem. I tried removing the disk and rebooting an
looked all over the BIOS and found nothing unusual. It is simply
phantom G: drive that resembles the D: but does not show up in Devic
manager. I see it represented in system restore too. Did yo
eventually figure it out

Boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, remove ALL instances of your
harddrives, reboot, Windows will re-detect drives.
