Second hard drive does not show in My Computer

I have installed a second WD 200gig hard drive as a slave drive on my pc.
It shows as set up and active in Disk Management and is recognised in BIOS.
I have also checked and double checked the jumpers and they are correct, yet
the allocated drive "E" does not show on "my computer".

Now this is where it gets even stranger. My pc is set up with three users,
an "ALL USERS" (gnerel) and then one for each of my two children.

The "all users" access does not show the "E" drive, but when you go into the
other user's "My Computer" it is there and can have data transferred to and
from it.

Does anyone have an idea as to what is causing the drive not to show in the
main users set up.I thought of reloading XP Home, but because I have updated
it via the net to SP2, it will not allow me to use my original set up disk.

Any assistance will be appreciated because my smaller hard disk only has
about 1 gig of free space left.

Your best option is to transfer your data to your new 200 gig drive. Your
drive should have came with a utility that images your old hard drive and
puts it onto your new hard drive. Look on the CD that came with your hard
drive and you will find this program called Data Lifeguard Tools

First Create a DLG for DOS disk

New hard drive did not come with any software but I had downloaded Data
Lifeguard Tools 11.2 for Windows.

Should I ditch it and get Data Lifeguard Tools 11.2 for DOS and proceed from
there.

Problem I had with the Data Lifeguard Tools 11.2 for Windows when I tried to
trf data was that it could recognise
the source drive but it could not recognise the target drive.

Yes download 11.2 for DOS that way any windows corruptions will not mess with
it. It should be fairly simple after booting to it.

You can slipstream SP2 into your version of XP Home which will enable you to
reload windows. See here http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/slipstream.htm

Have you checked the Computer Management Console to see if your drive is
listed there? Right click My Computer and select "Manage". In the left
screen click Disk Management and then look in the right pane. Right click
the drive and you can give it a drive letter. that should make it visible.

Have you had a USB drive of any sort? This may have already claimed Drive
'E'. Try allocating the new drive a different letter - somewhere in the
middle of the alphabet.

I did use a USB Memory stck a while ago and had previously tried changing
the drive to "F", still didn't show.

As "E" under disk management it shows up with a "healthy" staus.

What I don't understand is why as "E" is shows when going into the other
users' access on the same computer under their "My Computer" where it works
perfectly but not under the general user access.

I'll try and give it an "O" and see what happens.
