searching old emails

I am running Outlook 2007. I want to search emails in an archive outlook pst
that is not indexed. I do not want to wait the hours it will take to index
the emails. Is there any way to access the "old fashion" brute force search
of Outlook 2003 and earlier. I have tried using "advanced find" and even
when I search for an item that I know exists in the email archive, it is not
found.

advanced find uses the index when instant search is enabled. I don't know if
you can turn off instant search so advanced find works like before without
losing the index when you turn it back on.
