Searching in Open Dialogue Box

I am new to XP windows , but have a lot of experience with other Window O/S's.

I have always been able to search part of a file name in open dialogue box
and enter return which then returns a list of files. I cannot get it to do
it in XP, can anyone help.

Is a technique or check box that just needs checking?

If you have Windows XP Home Edition, do this, Click Start Menu then click
Search then you see 4 green arrow options on searching for things in Windows
XP Home Edition. They are 1) Picture, Music, Video 2) Documents( word
processing, spreadsheets, etc.) 3) All files and folders 4) Computers or
People
Click on the one that interests you.
