Searching for Text in Files

Guest

Hi,

When searching for Words or Phrases in files (Start > Search), why does it
not work when I put a number in? I know for a fact, the reference I am
searching for exists in a file (.txt) in the folder I am searching, but the
search returns no results.

This used to work in the old NT system, but not in XP.

Any thoughts/ideas how I get round this?

Cheers,
Steve.

Use an alternative search tool. Personally, I use File Locator Pro but
there are many others such as Agent Ransack available.

Or try one of the tweaks for adjusting XP search - a search on google
should turn some up for you. Also will find some here:

Personally, I'm not a big fan of changing defaults in some system tools as
the changes can cause unexpected repercussions. However, it's ultimately up
to you what you want to try and do on your own computer. Kelly includes
"undo" files for most of her tweaks. This makes it a lot easier to "get
back to where you started" if you do not like the results of a particular
tweak.
