Searching for strings

I am running WindowsXP Home Edition and I cannot get
Search to find files containing a specified string. For example, I do the
following:
- click on start/search
a "Search Result" window appears
- click on "All files and folders"
a dialog box appears
- in textbox "All or part of file name:" enter string "*.java"
- in textbox "A word or phrase in the file:", enter string "JPanel"
- in textbox "Look in:", enter string "c:\projects\java\meeus"
- hit Search
and the text window says: "Search is complete, There are no results
to display."
but the fact is I have file "c:\projects\java\meeus\Meeus.java" open and my
cursor is
on a line containing the string "JPanel"

What am I doing wrong? Why cannot Search find the file for me?
