Searching for specific word within a document

When I had windows 98 I could right click on a folder and
the search for a specific word and it would bring all the
documents within that folder that had that word in it.
When I try doing that in Windows XP it will only bring up
the files that have that word in the name of a file. I
am a medical transcriptionist. I have subfolder for each
doctor. Each document is named by the date the doctor
dictated, but not by patient names since the docs dictate
on 60 patients a day. Sometimes I will need to look for
a prevoius note on a patient. I used to right click on
the doctor name, then put in the patient name and it
would bring all the dates(documents) that name was in.
When I try that now, Windows XP will not give me
anything. Any suggestions? Can I do it in XP. I hope
so! Thanks for any help you might be able to give me!

XP's search feature has an option to search for a word or phrase within a
file. I've never used it myself so I don't know how effective it is.

Hi Angela,

The search feature within XP and XP SP1 is quite undependable. Eventually, I
gave up the ghost of trying to fix it with various patches and Registry
edits and downloaded a free program called Agent Ransack from:

http://www.agentransack.com

Maybe with the release of SP2 I'll once again use XP's native search
feature, but until then, I depend upon Agent Ransack
