Searching for a Contact while in a Task

There is a feature in a Task where you can assign contact(s) to the task. Is
there any way to search the contacts that come up?

Do you really mean Assign? Assigning will send the Contact a Task Request
and they will be the Owner of the Task.

I think he meant using the Contact field at the bottom left of the Task
form.

Same field appears in Contacts and Appointments. You can hit the
button and get a list of contacts in "File as" order, but you can't
search.

It would be handy to be able to do an advanced search there.
