Searchbars

Andrew

I am useing internet explorer and i have been getting more
and more search bars acumuliating in my browser as well as
a vast number or sinister popups that come along with
them, so much so that ever time i open or close and
internet explorer window i get at least one pop up per
operation.

my question is, does anyone know how i could either set up
internet explorer to not accept these search bars (anymore
or at all) or how to remove the ones that are attatching
them selves to the program. I have used several spyware
programs and i can't get rid of them, its almost as if i
actualy installed them but that is not the case, they
aren't in my install list or in any folder i can find.
that and i dont know what i'm looking for to remove them.

I hope someone cn help.

Andrew Strautz

You dont say which spyware apps you have used, so I will have to give you
the full list in case you do not have them.

Check out the following to get rid of your problem.

Get this file:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG
After downloading it, right click it and choose Merge.

Download/run Cool Web Shredder from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

For Info on Cool Web Search Variants
http://www.merijn.org/cwschronicles.html

Download/install/run Ad-Aware from
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
This will detect any spyware on your system. When you run Ad-Aware, click on
the ref update to get the latest up-to-date ref file, run Ad-Aware and
delete everything it finds.

You can also download/install/run:
Spybot - Search & Destroy from
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download
Sometimes this will find problems that are not found in Ad Aware.
This program has two entries to it (Easy and Advanced). Unless you know what
you are doing, run it in Easy mode and also select Immunize after it is run.
Make sure you read the help on this first.

If you still have problems, download/run HijackThis from:
http://www.merijn.org/
Be very careful with this program though. Do not remove anything that is
referenced by it until you get advice on what to remove as it will list some
good items as well as bad ones.
See http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/#quick and read the quick start on how to
create a log file that can be sent to a forum that can provide assistance on
removal of unwanted problems.
Post the logs to an appropriate NG here where they specialize in
spyware/hijacker removal:
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/

There are many Forums that offer Free "Hijack This" log review.

http://boards.cexx.org/
http://forums.net-integration.net/
http://forum.aumha.org/
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/index.php
http://www.lavasoftsupport.com

Take your pick - they all offer excellent support -

At the very least you should have Ad Aware present on your machine and run
it periodically.

Another possible option is to try ToolBar Cop. Go to this link

Hope this helps,

Andrew,
Have you tried "Spybot - Search & Destroy"? This is by far
the best spyware removal program I have ever seen. It also
locks your IE control panel so that aspects of your
browser cannot be changed.

As for all of those search bars, after you get them off
(hopefully using spybot) you should go into your IE
control panel and click the advanced tab (at the top).
There is any option for "install on demand". You want to
make IE ask you before installing things like that.
Usually if it's needed the site will notify you that the
box is going to pop up asking for confirmation before
installation. Good luck!

.

there is a way to remove all unwanted toolbars. First,
close all IE windows. Go to "start" "control Panel"
and "Network and Internet Connections" then "Internet
Options" click on the tab that says "Advanced" Under
the "Browser" category, deselect the box that
says "Enable third-party browser extensions" that should
permanently get rid of the toolbars you don't want
.
Unfortunately that option will also get rid of the
toolbars you do want. If you do not have any third-party
toolbars, and will never want any in the future, you can
try disabling third-party browser extensons.
