search problem

i used to be able to search from my address bar. i would
get the default msn engine. one day i started getting
lycos as my search engine. i dont like lycos so i tried
to get msn back. all of my search settings where still
set to msn as default so i was confused and i didnt want
to mess with the registry without help so i called a tech
support line. the tech support guy sent me a link to
download adware software to get rid of anything lycos
might have let on my computer. now i cant search from my
address bar at all. i get an error message when i do (u
know like when you are not online and you try to surf)
does anyone know how fix this and if it involves editing
my registry and you give me a step by step on how to. i
would greatly appreciate it!! thanks

There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite).

thank you for replying.... i already used adware to
remove any third party programs now i jus get an erroe
message when i try to search from the address bar.... do
i need to fix something in the ie registry?

Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic", copy and paste hijackthis.log into your new message.

hey --i used hijack this and i posted it where u said but
i didnt get a response right away so i deleted some stuff
on my own and evrything seems to be working fine and i
can search the address bar again!! thanks so much!
