Has anyone gotten the PDF IFilter to work with Search?
I am trying to search directories that contain PDF files and the Adobe
PDFFILT.dll is supposed to allow this.
So far I cannot get it to work.
Any ideas?

Yes, search files and folders for *.pdf will find all your pdfs and their
folders. Have fun!

Hi Codswallop,

Correct! However, since the OP is talking about PDF iFilter, I think he is
referring to the search for "A word or phrase in the file" option to work
with PDFs.

Ramesh,

Thank you for your response.
I had already downloaded and installed Adobe PDF IFILTER v6.0. It did not
work for me.

I went to the URL of your site that you referenced, but could find nothing
there. I then went to the URL of your "Ramesh's Site" and searched there.

I found your posting that v5.0 "works flawlessly". So I uninstalled v6.0 and
installed v5.0. This works fine. I am now able to look through directories
containing many PDF files and I can search on words or phrases.

Many thanks for your excellent and knowledgeable response.

I have the XP Media Edition with SR2 running on a 64 bit AMD.

I don't think I will try v6.0 again until I hear from you or others that it
works ok.

I had no idea how hard it is to perform a Search on a directory containing
PDF files. The Adobe DLL is the only thing available if you do not wish to
index (I do not wish to index).
I am very happy that my system is now working.

You're very welcome, Henry. I'll test it with Acrobat Reader v6.x later.
