Use Google Groups instead.

I suggest getting a proper newsreader application as well - the web
interface to these newsgroups is - quirky at best.

I am having the same problem...have tried it on two different
computers...one running xp professional and the other running xp
media...am thinking it may be the site

X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000

Same suggestion to you...

Stop using the clunky/unreliable/crap web interface to access these
newsgroups and get a proper newsreader.

Also - when you want to search for archived posts - use Google Groups
instead of the clunky/unreliable/crap web interface that was put up to give
access to trhe newsgroups for those without properly configured newsreader
applications.

Others have reported the same issue. The best way around this is to not use
the lousy web interface. These are actually Usenet newsgroups. Use a
newsreader for the best experience. XP comes with Outlook Express. Here is
a link for how to setup OE for newsgroup access.

If you can't find a post search for it on Google Groups Advanced Search in
the newsgroup: microsoft.public.windowsxp.general . Search for your name
as author.

Two points:

1. The reason you're having such problems is that you are using the web
interface to read this newsgroup--it's the slowest, clunkiest, most
error-prone method there is. Do yourself a favor and switch to a newsreader,
such as Outlook Express, which comes with Windows. See
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/outlookexpressnewreader.htm

2. Point 1 above pertains primarily for participating in newsgroups--reading
and replying to messages. But as far as I'm concerned, the best tool for
newsgroup *searches* is googlegroups advanced search. Go to it here:
http://groups.google.com/advanced_search

Thanks for the tip, however, may I make a suggestion? Although I realize that
it probably gets a bit frustrating having to deal with know nothing people
like myself who only happened to stumble on the web interface to find
solutions to problems and have never used a newsreader interface but you
could be a bit nicer in your response. If you weren't intending to be unkind
then you might reconsider the way you word things.

If you weren't intending to be unkind then you might reconsider the
way you word things.

There was no ill will towards you - only the cruddy/crappy web interface for
these newsgroups.
If you read anything more into my statements, you may have read it into it
any way I worded it.

If you wish - you may tell me exactly where you believe I made a
mistake in the way I worded things.
That would be what I would consider constructive criticism.
Otherwise - I have trouble seeing where I said anything unkind.
Your interpretation may be different than mine, however.
Many people tend to read things into typed text that don't actual exist. =)
Attitudes, attacks, etc - usually all a misunderstanding or a mood that the
person reading is in.
If I mean to be unkind - I will definitively and without leaving a doubt -
be unkind. ;-)

My opinion about the web interface is not unique.
Nor is the way I described it.
My signature is the same ALL the time.
My suggestion to use a proper newsreader will be the same from anyone when
compared to the web interface.

Bunky, I read Shenan's post. It was direct, but I don't see where it was
mean or unkind. The regular posters here answer many questions, and some
are repeats. Had you searched the newsgroup or searched through Google
groups before posting you would have seen the several previous threads on
this over the past week which would have answered your question without
needed to ask it again.

To be fast and efficient the answers are some times short, where needed, and
direct. There is no offense intended. I think if you step away from this
for a bit, then come back and read his response, you'll see it was not as
you seem to have taken it.

lol...my apologies, I realized when I read your initial replay that, being
text, it could have been my interpretation! As to where my interpretation may
have went astray...it wasn't with the words "clunky/unreliable/crap web
interface," I understood that was directed to the web interface. However,
possibly it was the "that was put up ti give access to the newsgroups for
those without properly configured newsreader applications," (interpreted,
moron's like me...lol) I think also, the abruptness of "same suggestion to
you" and "stop using."
Also, I appreciate your replying to my concern and for gently setting me
straight on your intentions!

I see now why you are an MVP!

By the way, I took your advice and went to groups.google.com and I MUCH
prefer that interface to this one or the outlook express interface....it took
me a little while (ten minutes or so) to figure out how to use it, but now
that I know how, I will never go back to the MS web interface....THANKS FOR
THE TIP!

Whilst I accept the comments about using a newsreader, they are of no
help to those of us who are unable to access Usenet through OE (or any
other newsreader) because access is blocked by corporate policies.

At least the Google facility lets me go where I want and need to go -
like this discussion group.

Sure, that can certainly affect the way you can access them.
