"Search" in Vista

Why "Search" is so ineffective in Vista (Ult)?
When searching in Win XP internally on PC or on news groups
results are shown almost immediately.
But in Vista it take ages if you get any result at all.
Any reason for that?

I dont know. Maybe because window vista uses over half of physical memory
(mines is 73%) Results are not shown. Do you have check file contents on?
 
folders...options....search....
"always search file names and contents"
"don't use the index"

I believe its the indexing that is the problem

after making these changes the search function is not slow

My experience is the exact opposite of yours. Search in Vista is much
better and faster than it was in Windows XP.

It works just fine for me. Actually, it works much better than the
search in XP.

Begin your search by searching for information on Search (and try saying
that quickly).

You're not the first person ever to have discovered the Search feature - the
topic has been discussed in numerous threads ad infinitum over the past year
and a half or so - many of which will contain good tips to improve your
experience of it.
