search function

Hi there

I have noticed some strange behaviour when using the "search" function in
Windows XP, and hope that someone can shed some light...

I have about 100 text files of about 1MB each. They have names like:
mylogfile.txt, mylogfile.txt.1, mylogfile.txt.2 and so on.

They contain only text.

If I search for a string (for example "metadata") in all files, it is not
found, even though I know this string is found about 1000 times in each
file. As an experiment I added the string "xxx" to file mylogfile.txt.21,
and tried to search for that with the windows search function. It was not
found either.

What must one do to get windows search to find a string in a bunch of text
files?

Thanks,
Peter

I have found several descriptions on the web about this problem. The
solutions appears to be to use a 3rd party search tool like "Agent Ransack".
