Search Function returns 404 error

I am trying to install a search feature on my site, www.kitchenmixgifts.com
.. (The search is located on the left hand side of each page). However, I
receive an error 404 msg each time I attempt to search. I am using GO daddy
as a hosting company.

I have uninstalled & reinstalled FP ext's 3x's. When I contacted them they
said that it is not their issue, it is a FP issue, I should contact someone
at microsoft. (Um, okaaaaaay.)

So .. now I'm here, hoping that you have some suggestions.

The webbot creates the following code to create a searchbox:

<!--webbot bot="Search" S-Index="All" S-Fields="Weight" S-Text="Search:"
I-Size="18" S-Submit="Start Search" S-Clear="Reset"
S-TimestampFormat="%m/%d/%Y" TAG="BODY" b-useindexserver="0" -->

My account with go daddy has several sites within 1 account (create
sub-folders in the root and point the domains to each folder).
I am wondering whether this part of the code: b-useindexserver="0" : would
actually have to be something different to reference the vti_bin folder of
This particular site.

Oy, I hope I've made that clear enough, its hard to convey.

Thanks, liss

My tests indicate the FP server extensions are NOT installed.

We get many, many posts from GoDaddy customers who have nothing but
problems. GoDaddy always says it's a Microsoft problem, so they don't have
to admit they *are* the problem.

There is nothing we can do to help. The problem is in fact, with GoDaddy.

Many people recommend to switch hosts.

Also, I tried the following before posting to the list:

Publish http:// to the site?
yes, then open the site directly in FP, removed the
search component, saved the page, then reopened the page and added the
search component back in, saved
Then run Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks, then test the page.

Still didnt work.

Then you need to contact your web host to see if it is supported.

Okay, this is what I discovered with GODADDY the Nightmare from hell...

When you create a hosting account with them they name the account with 1
domain name, whether you have 1 domain or 50. They stick the remaining domain
names as subfolders within that 1 main account. ANY Domains needed FP
extentions in those "inferior" sub-accounts will NOT work.

I switched this site to be the MAIN domain for the account, uninstalled FP
ext, reinstalled FP extentions, tried to recalculate the hyperlinks, to which
I received an error. THEN, after all that hassle, I reinstalled the search
function on the page.

Now, I have a new issue... when I try to use the search, it requests a
username and password to access the server. Um, how do I fix that little
deal??

LOL, and here I thought this would be easy.

Go Daddy Sux,

Liss

You are going to have to resolve this and all of your issues with GoDaddy.
They are the ones controlling the server.

Thanks. I spent all of yesterday uninstalling, reinstalling the FP ext. I
called GoDaddy & asked them repeatedly to fix the permissions, since my web
visitors were being asked to provide a username and password. They claimed
the fixed it, but that users had to visit the site using the WWW.domain.com
rather than http://domain.com , that I needed to provide a redirect because
FP causes errors. then no matter what was entered for a search my users
received the following error:

can't open the word hash file
/var/chroot/home/content/m/o/n/html/_vti_txt/default.wti/All.dct

I find this all QUITE interesting considering that I have 17 other sites
hosted with various other companies, (not all my eggs in 1 basket), and NONE
of them have these kinds of issues. ALL of my FP forms and Search functions
work correctly on my www.Budget101.com site.

So, Note to All users wishing to use FrontPage 2003 to create and maintain
your site, DO NOT USE GO DADDY!

Thanks to all on here that tried to correct the errors and help, i greatly
appreciate your knowledge and the time you took to answer my questions.
I'm in the process of transferring my domain to a different host so my site
will function properly.
