Search Freezes

When I click on Start, then Search, nothing happens
except the computer freezes for about a minute. My
search feature disappeared. Anyone have any ideas how I
can get it back? Also, maybe an idea as to what I did to
make it this way, so I do not do it again?

Thanks for responding to my post so quickly. Although I
tried that last night and it didn't work. I think what I
need to do is put in my Windows XP Recovery disk and
start over again.
