Is there a way under XP to control the format of the search-for-file window?
The default, when I try to open a file in Thunderbird to attach to an email,
is to show filenames in multiple columns. What I want is for the default to
show "Name" "Date Modified" "Size" "Type" in a single column. I would like
it to be in this mode no matter where I open it from (Word, Firefox, etc).
Now there is, of course, the View Menu icon from which I can select the view
I want, but it is a pain to have to do this every time. Can I make the
selection stick somehow?

This will set it to details view which will use the default view that you set
up in Folder Options ("Apply to all folders")

FileOpenPatcher from ElmuSoft enlarges the Windows Open File dialog
and sets Details view as default.

FileOpenPatcher is the successor of the famous MultiEnhancer.

I have this installed and it almost is a complete solution to the problem.
It's just too bad the author didn't allow you to specify what fields you want
to display in the details view. But at least it does display the size, date
and time. Thanks for your response. If anyone has a better solution, I'm
still listening.

It's up to you to decide what fields to display.
