search feature after hitting "start" button

When I hit the start button and then try to use the search feature, it no
longer works (I don't get the window which allows me to do the search.
 
I've had this problem before too - but that was after I deleted the srchasst
folder in Windows thinking it was that was the toolbar you'd get in IE lol
(dumb me, I know) Anyway, I found a fix for it online that reverted it to
the 98 style, but I can't find it..I did find this link and I hope it helps:
