Search engines in explorer

I recently had XP put on my computer and just before I
did I had a problem where when I would get on the
internet and would go to google would would not be able
to bring up web page or when I would go to yahoo, it
would come up OK except when you would type something in
the search box and click go, it would say cannot open
page. It seems like search engines do not work anymore
and I do not know what is going on. Any help would be so
greatly appreciated.

First eliminate any scumware.
