I can't use my Search engine for files or folders in my
Windows XP. Whenever I tried to search for a file, a
message would pop up and says that I need to set up Search
Companion. What's Search Companion? Shouldnt it be
together with the Search engine also? Where can I find
the Search Companion? How come I did not have that
problem when I was using windows98?
Thanks

Hi,

Are you online at the time? Search Assistant will try to connect to
http://sa.windows.com This is done to check for updates to its features,
tips, wording and etc. Not allowing access can cause its own set of
problems, usually a "A file that is required........." error message.

You can stop the internet access by changing the search behavior to Classic
Search.

Or...

Use TweakUI, Explorer section to set Classic Search:
