Search Desktop

Since a recent Windows Update, I have a "Search Desktop" box sitting on my
taskbar, just to the left of the System Tray. Although I have managed to
remove automatic startup of the confounded "search indexer" process (I want
to use my computer for what I determine, not what suits Microsoft!), I have
not found how I can remove this box. Since I use "search" only rarely, I
would prefer the taskbar space to be available for running programs. How can
I remove the "Search Desktop" box, please?

Right click the free taskbar > Toolbars (untick as usual) - or -
Control Panel > Desktop Search Settings > Deskbar > Hide Deskbar (or similar).
