After entering and selecting all information in search when I click the
search button
I get a error message for search companion (Unenexpected error-Action could
not be completed)
Could find nothing in knowledge base and it does not work with any type of
folders, files, pictures are you name it. Window XP SR-2 and explorer are it.

I guess I'd try reinstalling it.

First ensure you have enabled hidden files and folders:

Showing Hidden Files:
http://kgiii.info/windows/all/general/show_hidden_files.html

When you have done that, you can either navigate to:

C:\Windows\inf

Or, if you haven't installed the Operating System in the Windows folder:

Press the Start button
Click on Run
Type in "%WinDir%\inf" (without the quotes)
Press Enter

When you have that folder open, find the Srchasst.inf file, right click on
it, and select install.

You will probably be asked to insert your Windows XP CD so you should have
that ready. After that you will also likely be required to reboot before the
changes take place.

(Actually that is content waiting to get uploaded after my webmaster formats
it properly, it's a sneak preview.)

Thank you for the help. I did as you suggested but it did not cure the
problem with Search Companion. I also noted it wanted msgr32en.dll. In the
article ID 81665 Rev 1.0 I installed it in the register per the instructions
and it did not help. I left it in the register because there was no Search
Result Folder in the register.

I think I've seen a dozen or two similar complaints in the past couple of
weeks in the public newsgroups.

I don't have a fix for you - all I can do is hope...

Start button
Run
Type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes (be mindful of the space)
Press Enter
Insert your CD when prompted
Let it run - go get food...

No go?

(I'm still not certain why msgr32en.dll would be required for Search
Companion by the way.)

Did you have WDS installed?
