Search companion "needs file"

K

Ken

XP Pro, SP2

Suddenly, when I try to search my files for something (i.e., right click on
a folder or directory), I get an alert telling me that search companion is
missing a necessary file, "You might have to run setup."

First, I'm not quite sure how or why.

Second, I have my original XP Pro disc, which includes SP 1a. None of the
options seems appropriate. I don't want to install a Windows component (I
don't think). If I go to "install Windows XP," I'm told I have a more
current version on my computer, and am advised not to continue.

Help?

Thanks.
Ken

Ramesh:

Tried that and got the following error: "msgr3en.dll on Windows XP Pro SP2
CD is needed."

Now what?
Thanks,
Ken

Ken,

Point to %Windir%\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder for the latest version of
system files.

Also, it's advisable to have a slipstreamed Windows XP CD (SP2 integration)
in place.
