Search Companion & Mouse Scroll

I have Windows XP and Explorer 6, SP2. When I got to different websites,
Search Companion will open on the left-hand side of the window (similar to
how My Favorites would display). It never used to happen but all of sudden
it began to occur.

Also, I used to be able to use the scroll on my mouse to move a webpage up
and down and now it no longer works. It works in all my other programs.

Any suggestions?!?! Thanks.

Hi,

In regards to the Search Companion opening when you visit a site, the
following page may be of some assistance in configuring SC properly:

How To Configure the Search Companion in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307980&sd=tech

The following may be more relavent in fixing your problem. Although it does not
specifically deal with SC opening with different websites, it does apply when SC
starts when you open an new Explorer window. You may wish to consider it:

Search Companion Starts If You Double-Click a Folder
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321186

If the above does not serve to solve your problem, please post to this
thread.

Thank you, and best regards,

Altrus

Hi,

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, I tried the first suggestion before
and it still pops up when I made the suggested changes.

Hi,

Does the search companion pop-up with every new window? Or simply everytime
you open IE?

Also, while you acknowledged the first link, have you tried the second?

Search Companion Starts If You Double-Click a Folder

If you have any questions about the above link, or aren't sure about how to do
it, feel free to post.

Best regards,

Altrus

When I open IE - it doesn't pop-up. However, when I type in a web address or
click a link (or a favorite) it will pop-up 90% of the time.

That probably means that you aren't entering complete URLs
or that your DNS is not working well. E.g. if the first lookup
fails, the AutoSearch site is tried. You probably have AutoSearch
set to Display results... which opens the Explorer Search bar.
