Search Companion does not work?

I have WinXP Home Edition. When I installed SP1 or MS
Office 2003 I lost the capabilities to run the search
inside of Windows. It pops up with a square with a black
exclamation in a yellow triangle with Search Companion on
the top and OK block inside of square.
I have the search companion and standard search
capabilities inside of a web page but not when I try to
find a file or folder on my computer.
I do sign on as an administrator. Any suggestions how to
get the search companion working inside of windows??
Thanks
