Search Button

I would like to customize the search button to use google
as the search engine. However, when I click the search
button, the menu opens and "Hot searches" comes up with
no way to customize. When I hit the customize button,
another window opens with the same search menu. Any
suggestions?

Thanks, bk

I just ran into that today. I had landed on a porn site,
and it filled my favorite places with a bunch of crap, and
also made it impossible to customize my "search" button.
I was just looking for Harley stuff, and wouldn't you know
one of the choices turned out to be a really bad "biker
bitch" kind of site. Not what I was looking for. Spent
1/2 the day cleaning this nonsense out. I hope we both
find the answer. I'm really not all that computer
literate, and REALLY don't want to go in and start
diddling with the registry.

Good luck.

Hi BK and PT - From your descriptions it's difficult to be sure just what
you got into, and therefore to prescribe any specific actions. Both of you
do the following

Download HijackThis, free, here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

Unzip it to any convenient folder, start it then press Scan. Click on
SaveLog when it's finished which will create hijackthis.log. Now click the
Config button, then Misc Tools and click on Generate StartupList.log which
will create Startuplist.txt

Go to Spyware and Hijackware Removal Support, here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/index.php?s=8a236cdf61469fbad3bddbe810be0374&act=SF&f=11

Sign in, then copy and paste both files into a message asking for
assistance, Someone will answer with detailed instructions for the removal
of your parasite(s).

In addition to the above, if you don't already have them here are some
things which will help you defense your systems:

The best way to start is to get Ad-Aware 6.0, Build 181 or later, here:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/. Update and run this regularly
to get rid of most "spyware/hijackware" on your machine. If it has to fix
things, be sure to re-boot and rerun AdAware again and repeat this cycle
until you get a clean scan. The reason is that it may have to remove
things which are currently "in use" before it can then clean up others.

Another excellent program for this purpose is SpyBot Search and Destroy
available here: http://security.kolla.de/ SpyBot Support Forum here:
http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi. I recommend
using both normally. After fixing things with SpyBot S&D, be sure to
re-boot and rerun SpyBot again and repeat this cycle until you get a clean
"no red" scan. The reason is that SpyBot sometimes has to remove things
which are currently "in use" before it can then clean up others.

Lastly, you might want to consider installing the SpywareBlaster and
SpywareGuard here to help prevent this kind of thing from happening in the
future:

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html (Prevents malware Active
X installs) (BTW, SpyWare Blaster is not memory resident ... no CPU or
memory load - but keep it updated) The latest version as of this writing
will prevent installation or prevent the malware from running if it is
already installed (currently 822 baddies), and it provides information and
fixit-links for a variety of parasites.
http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html (Monitors for attempts to
install malware) Both Very Highly Recommended.

Man that is really messed up. The link for the online scan opened the page,
but...now it's google search engine? Forgo this scan! Now I've got to see
what the deal with this is. %#*!$#&!

OK, here's the story. On the Pestpatrol link click products>pestscan. Then
you will be prompted to enter a "name and e-mail address". After that, a
prompt will immediately appear as to whether you want to install components
necessary to run the on-line scan. This is no different than those that you
would get from Symantec, Trend Micro, Freedom-online, or Panda on-line
virus scanners. These components get downloaded to your
C:\Windows\Downloaded program files. Once done with the scan you may delete
them, or leave them on board for future scans. Glad I figured that out -
Whew!

everything on my toolbar is on the top line of my window.
the toolbar below this is filled with 'links' the entire
width of window. each link (14 total) has a drop-down
menu with every site i want to visit. names are real
short.

center 'link' is [google] with different google searches
from image-web-directory-catalog-groups-viewer-news-etc.
my entire 'link' toolbar works real great and do not need
favorites except to add any new 'links'.

also each 'link' has different colorful icon from the
icons collected at sites.
