Search Button doesn't work anymore

I used to be able to click the search button on the
toolbar and get a window pane with my previously
customized search engine options. Now when I click the
button (or get it from the pull down menu) it "can't find
the page" or pops up the "send an error report to
mircosoft screen" and then closes explorer.
