Search Alternatives for Vista.

I have given up on the hopeless search in Visa RTM, it's badly designed,
and at times broken (it's not finding text in PHP and JS files I know are
there, and are indexed). I think they spent too much time getting it to
search for photos and music metadata, and broke everything else..

Seriously, does anyone test this stuff???... Can anyone suggest a free
search alternative, which can search in files?

Uhm, Google Desktop?

Not sure if it is Vista-compatible though.

Google desktop works fine with Vista RTM 6000. I use it all the time.

Good to know.

It was my desktop search engine of choice for XP (sorry WDS). Right now I'm
quite satisfied with Vista's built-in search but it's too soon yet to draw
conclusion so time will tell.
