I have a non-SCSI board with 2 IDE CD drives and 2 IDE
hard drives with XP SP2. XP idnetifies these 4 drives as
SCSI and although everything seens to work fine, I have
no DMA option. Any ideas? Thak you!

Did you install the motherboard drivers
from the CD that came with it or from
the MB mgfr's website?

The motherboard drivers are the latest from the website,
which I believe may be the same as the CD; also, the BIOS
is the most current.

Huh. nForce stuff. No experience with that chipset.

If may just be that the nForce driver model does NOT
expose the DMA setting as other drivers do, it automatically
handles it.

Is your disk performance bad?

Disc performance is not bad. I am just starting to mess
with DVD and of course I need the fastest speed possible.

I am still wondering why XP is labeling my drives SCSI ?

It isn't "just XP".

It's a combination of drivers, hardware, AND XP
causing this behavior.

The Promise IDE RAID array I use shows up
under SCSI too.

It doesn't mean anything is wrong with it, and
I've quit worrying about it long ago.

Run some disk benchmarks, satisfy yourself
nothing's wrong, get on with your life.

Basically, all PCI IDE Controllers including SATA ones are going to
appear as SCSI devices even though they aren't. This is just the way XP
deals with the hardware configuration (or it may be the way that all
motherboards feed the information to XP, but more likely Windows fault
than everyone else's) :)

I HAVE THE SAME SORT OF PROBLEM IT AFFECTS CERTAIN BURNING SOFT WARE.
HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH NERO 6 THOUGHT. THE PROGRAME THAT I USE MOST IS
MOVIE CLONE. BUT CANT UES IT ANY MORE SINCE I BOUGHT NEW PC.
MOST PROBLEMS ARE RELATED TO VIRTUAL DRIVES. LIKE IN CD I HAVE BOUGHT THIS
NEW PC AS SAID. BUT CAN UNISTALL VIRTUAL CD 4.5 IT CAME PREINSTALLED ON THE
COMPUTER. WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS THERE A WAY OF UNSTALLING THIS OR
REPAIRING IT I REMOVED IT FROM THE ADD @ RMOVE. BUT THIS DID NOT REMOVE THE
VIRTUAL DRIVES FROM THE COMPUTER. IF I REMOVE THE SCSI RAID CONTROLLER . BY
UNSTALLING THIS THIS FIXS THE PROBLEM. BUT CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT THE SCSI RAID
CONTRLLER/S DO.
AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE. PLEASE. AND ANY OTHER HELP WOULD BE VERY HELP FULL
THANKS AGAIN

Hi BaneyX2- I tried to read your post but it made my eyes hurt. All caps is
hard to read and is considered "shouting" - pls. repost in regular, proper,
mixed case English with paragraph breaks to make it easier. Thanks!
